Dunsfold is built around one of the longest village greens in Surrey, with cottages and farmhouses along its edges and substantial country homes in the lanes beyond. Best known beyond the county for the aerodrome at Dunsfold Park, it remains a quiet and notably well-kept village. I decorate throughout it.
Decorating in Dunsfold
The village core is genuinely old — brick, clay tile and timber, with the settled plaster and uneven surfaces that come with age. Around it, larger farmhouses and country houses offer more formal rooms, generous joinery and the occasional listed interior. Both call for sympathetic materials and an unhurried hand.
Older Dunsfold houses have moved and settled over generations, and they need making good with care rather than covering over. I fill, sand and repair properly first, then build the finish up by hand in coats chosen to suit each surface.
Many Dunsfold houses sit in open countryside with big windows and a lot of natural light, which is unforgiving on woodwork — so the sanding and filling stages get more time here than most people expect.
